El promotor del GP de Canadá, Francois Dumontier, viajó a Abu Dabi para anunciar el asiento de la carrera 2020 de Nicholas Latifi con Williams.
Le Journal de Montreal dijo que Dumontier también viajó a Inglaterra a fines de 2016 cuando el mismo equipo británico estaba a punto de anunciar la firma de Lance Stroll.
«Cuando escuché que Williams haría el anuncio en Abu Dhabi, decidí venir aquí», dijo.
«No podemos pedir más», agregó Dumontier. «Dos canadienses en la F1 de forma permanente es un momento muy histórico y emocionante».
